Roon best practices for Roon performance

These are some good settings to keep Roon running at it’s best. The default settings in Roon are usually the best but if you have changed any of these you may want to change them back.

Correctly setting the Background audio analysis speed

In the Roon app → Settings → Library → Background audio analysis speed

This setting should always be set to throttled. If not Roon will use to much CPU power for analysis and you will get dropouts during playback.

Same with Settings → Library → On-demand audio analysis speed. This should also be set to throttled.

Clean up the music library

In the Roon app press Settings → Library → Clean up Library. Check all three section and press Clean up Library.

If you move a lot of files around the library can get messy. This will slow Roon down. Cleaning the library restores speed and reduces problems.

MUSE precision Audio Control

Roon has a DSP section called MUSE for up-sampling and modifying music in real time. If set incorrectly this can use up a lot of CPU and cause issues in Roon. To test if this is a problem you can disable MUSE all together.

There is a lot more information on MUSE and how to use it on the Roon Knowledge Base here.
